3 Songs: On Repeat
Watkins
Family Hour – “Brokedown Palace” (The brainstorm of
siblings Sara and Sean Watkins of Nickel Creek, the Watkins Family Hour is the
acclaimed monthly residency at the Largo in L.A. that began in 2002. Recently Sean & Sara gathered some of
their virtuoso musical friends and residency performers such as Fiona Apple, Benmont
Tench, Greg Liesz, Sebastian Steinberg and Don Heffington to record their self-titled
debut album, out today via Family Hour Records.
Recorded live in studio in just three days, the recording captures the spirit
and spontaneity of their live performances with a selection of cover songs
originally by Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, Fleetwood Mac and more. Additionally, the collective will take the
show on the road for the first time this summer.) http://watkinsfamilyhour.com/

Strange
Wilds – “Starved For” (The Olympia-based power trio
formed from the ashes of hardcore punk bands Negative Press, Outlook, and Wreck;
their debut album, Subjective Concepts
is out today on Sub Pop. Their retro-leaning
yet modern sound recalls the early days of the label with thunderous blasts of gritty,
noise-addled skate punk alongside fuzzed-out grunge for a very promising debut.)

Hope
Drone – “Every End Is Fated In Its Beginning” (The
experimental Australian post-metal band released their highly-anticipated
sophomore album, Cloak Of Ash, today
via their new label home, Relapse Records.
On it the quartet combines oppressively dark, Deafheaven-like black
metal atmospherics and a brutal, sludge-thick heaviness with sweeping layers of
droning, dissonant noise all to prove that they are an all-consuming,
unrelenting force to be reckoned with.) https://hopedrone.bandcamp.com/album/cloak-of-ash
