RECAP: Bunbury Music Festival 2015
Despite the minor hiccups – long entrance lines,
rain and ATM issues - that were solved after the first night, this year’s
Bunbury Music Festival was another smashing success.
The headliners, The Black Keys, The Avett Brothers
and Snoop Dogg did what was expected of them and the Columbus-based duo, Twenty
One Pilots stole the show once again with their energetic and engaging
performance. Other bands that impressed were
Temples, whose hazy psychedelic sound matched the intensity of the hot and
humid afternoon and Brand New, who after a long hiatus looked…well, brand new. Also, Father John Misty’s off-kilter folk and
lounge act and Royal Blood’s thunderous two-man throwdown were highlights as
well.
The one act that surprised me the most though was
Bleachers. I hadn’t really paid much
attention to them beyond the ubiquitous radio singles but their arena-worthy 80’s-inspired
rock show came complete with saxophone solos and Jack Antonoff, formerly of
fun. was the perfect showman.
I am already looking forward to next year, which will
be the fifth year of the festival, so I am expecting big things!
