3 Songs: On Repeat

Mates Of State – “Staring Contest” (Husband and wife indie-pop duo Mates Of State released their new long-awaited new EP, You’re Going To Make It, this week via Barsuk.  Led by the saccharine-sweet wide-eyed love song and first single, “Staring Contest”, the duo has incorporated more danceable electro beats to their infectiously catchy drums/keyboards setup.  Better yet, they released this video starring their two adorable daughters, Magnolia and June.  Move over kittens and baby goats, this is the cutest thing you will see on the internet all day!) http://www.barsuk.com/w3.cgi?vwy=artists/matesofstate

Watch:

Christopher Paul Stelling – “Horse” (The Brooklyn-based troubadour trades in fiery Gospel-drenched and blues-soaked traditional folk with stomping percussion on Labor Against Waste, his excellent third album and label debut for Anti- Records.  Check out the standout single with its back-porch Bluegrass jam-inspired flickering mandolins, fluttering fiddle and howling vocals here.) http://www.christopherpaulstelling.com/

Dave Monks – “Gasoline” (This week, the Tokyo Police Club frontman released his debut solo outing, All Signs Point To Yes, via Dine Alone Records.  The outstanding 6-song EP is stripped down and highlighted by acoustic guitar-led and piano-laced 60’s pop-inspired folk tunes that showcase a gentler, more earnest and organic side of his songwriting.) http://davemonksmusic.com/
