REVIEW: Ritual Bronze – Ritual Bronze

In case you missed it, emerging Cleveland band Ritual Bronze released their self-titled debut album earlier this summer as a joint release between Cleveland’s Steadfast Records and Dayton’s Sweet Cheetah Records.  The first vinyl pressing sold out immediately, which led to a second pressing on opaque grey vinyl, which is available now.

Ritual Bronze is the new vessel for Ryan Harwick of hardcore band Last Gasp, who folds in the intensity of his hardcore band with the raw and honest emotional pull of early 2000’s emo.  Harwick and crew tackle relatable life subjects such as aging, addiction, heartbreak and parenthood, perfectly summed up by the self-deprecating lead single, “40 Year Corpse” and the striking standout track “Brave Little Bird”.  The former plays with atmospheric Elliott and Appleseed Cast-like melodicism, as the latter brings an emotionally charged energy with an ear-worming shout-along chorus.  Throughout, the band crests and falls with a fluid-like musicality that contrasts the energetic intensity with more introspective and reflective moments that burn slowly.

Ritual Bronze's promising debut sounds equally nostalgic and modern; the perfect soundtrack for the aging emo fan or the future soundtrack for the next generation.
