REISSUE: Obituary - Cause Of Death
Real Gone Music, the eclectic California-based reissue label recently reissued Cause Of Death, the legendary second album from Tampa death metal pioneers Obituary. For its first American reissue in over 30 years, the 1990 album has been remastered and pressed onto gray with black splatter vinyl.
Obituary – still active today – is led by the inimitable guttural growl of John Tardy, his brother, drummer Donald and the sludgy swamp-thick guitars of Trevor Peres. The classic album - originally released via Roadrunner - was highlighted by the anthemic standout track, “Chopped in Half”, which alternates between gore-infested grooves to blasting breakneck speed, for the perfect introduction to the band’s signature sound. The album also featured guest lead guitarist, James Murphy who also played with Death and Testament, as well as an incredible cover of “Circle Of the Tyrants”, by one of the band’s biggest influences, Celtic Frost. Another standout is “Dying” which incorporates elements of hardcore punk alongside a raging riff that recalls ...And Justice For All era Metallica.
Thirty-six years after its debut, Obituary’s death metal classic Cause Of Death finally gets a proper vinyl reissue that will ensure its legendary status for thirty-six more years to come.
Additionally, Real Gone Music has also reissued Obituary’s debut album, Slowly We Rot and has reissued other metal classics from Death Angel, Hatebreed, Fear Factory and Life Of Agony.
(Editor’s note: The reissue is sold out online at Real Gone Music but check your local shop and lookout for a second pressing.)
