SHOW ALERT: Claypool Gold Tour ’26 & REVIEW: Colonel Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade – Return Of The Live Frogs: Volume 1

 

Les is more with the Claypool Gold ’26 Tour! 

Les Claypool is hitting the road with three of his bands; Primus, The Claypool Lennon Delirium and The Frog Brigade.  The tour is making a stop in Columbus on Saturday, June 6 at Kemba Live!. 

Leading up to the tour, Claypool has been busy and highly-prolific.  With the recent release of the Handful Of Nuggs, a new Primus EP, featuring the dynamic new song, “The Ol’ Grizz”, along with The Great Parrot Ox and The Golden Egg of Empathy, the recently released third album (and comic book) with The Claypool Lennon Delirium, his collaborative psychedelic prog-rock band with Sean Lennon.  Additionally, Les has also just released a new live album with his solo/side project Colonel Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, titled, Return Of The Live Frogs: Volume 1.

 Out now on ATO Records, the new live album – pressed onto “frog green” vinyl - features four songs recorded live in 2023 during the Hunt For Green October Tour.  The band of expert musicians and long-time collaborators features Claypool on bass/vocals, Lennon on guitar, Skerik on saxophone, drummer Paolo Baldi, percussionist Mike Dillon and keyboardist Harry Waters.  Together they jam on Claypool solo songs “Up On A Roof”, “Phantom Patriot”, “D’s Diner” and “Cosmic Highway”.

Opening the album is “Up On A Roof” which stands out due to the push and pull of Lennon’s guitar freakouts and Skerik’s skroniking sax solos and an extended marimba solo from Dillon that fittingly sounds like a cartoon character’s twinkle-toed escape from rooftop danger.  Next, the anthemic “Phantom Patriot” – originally released on the 2006 Claypool solo album, Of Whales And Woe - is highlighted by an insistent bass-led groove as each member brings their own color to the palette.  The B-side consists of the funky and humorous sing-along, “D’s Diner” and an extended ride along the “Cosmic Highway”.
