REISSUE: The Fall – I Am Kurious Oranj
The Fall - led by the inimitable Mark E. Smith (who
passed away earlier this year) - were highly-prolific post-punk pioneers with
an experimental attitude. For example, their
eleventh album was an ambitious concept album written to be the soundtrack to
an accompanying ballet titled, “I Am Curious, Orange”, which was produced by
the Michael Clark Company. The ballet was
performed in London at the Sadler Wells Theatre with The Fall playing live. The album, released by Beggars Banquet 30 years
ago, I Am Kurious Oranj – led by
standout tracks, “New Big Printz”, “Cab It Up!” and “Jerusalem” – became one of
The Fall’s most beloved releases during their so-called “golden era” from
1984-1989. At the turn of the millennium,
their eclectic yet danceable sound was highly influential to bands such as,
Franz Ferdinand, Interpol and The Strokes.
In celebration of its 30th anniversary and in tribute to their enormous influence, Beggars Arkive has recently reissued I Am Kurious Oranj fittingly on orange vinyl. Additionally, it is packaged with a replica of the original ballet playbill from the performances at Sadler Wells Theatre.
