REISSUE: Modest Mouse – Baron Von Bullshit Rides Again
In 2004, Modest Mouse released their first and only official
live album as a tour-only bootleg titled, Baron
Von Bullshit Rides Again. Originally
released on CD only and sold during their touring that year (I got my copy back
then!) the long out of print album has been sought after by fans on the
secondary market. But on Record Store
Day Black Friday, Legacy Recordings and Epic Records did us a solid and
reissued the live album on vinyl and to the public for the very first time in
celebration of its 20th anniversary.
Recorded live at The Social in Orlando in February of 2004,
shortly after the release of their breakout album, Good News For People Who Love Bad News, Baron features a 10-song track list highlighted by fan favorites, “3rd
Planet”, “Interstate 8”, “Doin’ The Cockroach”, “Broke” and “The Good Times Are
Killing Me”. The best part might just be
the between song stage banter from Isaac Brock, one hilarious example is when
he dismisses a person in the crowd calling for a cover of “Free Bird”.
For as much as Modest Mouse tours and is revered for their
live show, it’s surprising that Baron
is the only true live recording released of the band over the years. Even more surprising is that it wasn’t widely
available but now it is; Modes Mouse fan rejoice!
