REISSUE: Slick Rick – The Great Adventures Of Slick Rick (30th Anniversary Edition)
Last year marked the 30th anniversary of a true
hip-hop classic, Slick Rick’s 1988 debut album, The Great Adventures of Slick Rick.
The highly-influential British-American MC had an imitable flow and wove
stories of society, life and love with a quirky sense of humor. His seminal debut album sparked the singles,
“Teenage Love” and the much-sampled, interpolated, and covered signature track,
“Children’s Story” and standouts such as the club-ready “Let’s Get Crazy”, “Hey
Young World” and “Mona Lisa”. Prior to
his signing with Def Jam and the release of his debut, Slick Rick rose to fame
as part of Doug E. Fresh’s Get Fresh Crew with their hit singles, “The Show”
and “La Di Da Di”.
In honor, Def Jam Recordings/Urban Legends/UMe
recently released a remastered and expanded reissue of Rick The Ruler’s debut
album. The reissue is available
digitally on CD and as a standard 2LP collector’s edition. Also available is the limited edition 2LP
Deluxe set that includes a booklet packed with photos, an essay in tribute from
Nas and one from Rick himself, reproductions of lyrics sheets and a
reproduction of Rick’s signature eye patch.
The expanded reissue is highlighted by 1984 demo
versions of four tracks including, “Children’s Story” and “Hey Young World”;
and also includes a previously unreleased track, “Snakes Of The World Today”,
recorded during the original sessions for the album.
