SHOW ALERT: The Tillers – Record Release Show @ Southgate House Revival on Saturday, 3/24

Tomorrow is the release date for the long-awaited fifth studio album from the Cincinnati-based string-folk band The Tillers.  The self-titled new album will be released via the band’s new label home, Sofaburn Records and was recorded with producer Mike Montgomery of fellow Sofaburn bands ampline and R.Ring.
The lyrical themes on the 10-track album pull from their own experiences (“Riverboat Dishwashing Song” and “Dear Mother”) yet sound timeless (“Migrant’s Lament”).  Musically, it is their most diverse yet consistent release so far with the first recorded output of fiddler Joe Macheret who joined the band in 2015.  Alongside aching Appalachian folk, speedy bluegrass rhythms and elements of country and jazz, their punk rock roots shine in their raucous cover of the Woody Guthrie song “All You Fascists Are Bound To Lose,” where singer-songwriter-banjo player Mike Oberst has updated the song with two newly-penned extra verses that reflect our current political landscape.
The Tillers will be playing a record release show at Southgate House Revival on Saturday, March 24, sharing the stage with Pert’ Near Sandstone and Al Scorch.
