Sepultura - THE ROADRUNNER ALBUMS 1985-1996 box set
Sepultura is hands-down one of my favorite metal
bands of the late 80’s and 90’s. Their
first six albums - Morbid Visions (1986), Schizophrenia
(1987), Beneath The Remains (1989), Arise (1991), Chaos A.D. (1993), and Roots
(1996) – are time-tested classics and their influence on metal music across the
world is undisputed.
The Brazilian-born metal band’s classic lineup consisted
of brothers, Max and Igor Cavalera, Paulo Jr. and Andreas Kisser and from their
raw, black metal beginnings on Morbid
Visions to Schizophrenia and Beneath The Remains, which ushered in an
epic new take on thrash metal, their sound was ever-expanding and experimental. Their next two albums – Arise and Chaos A.D. -
blended thrash, death metal and hardcore punk with slower, heavier grooves and anthemic,
politically-charged lyrics and the last classic-era album, Roots, took on the nu-metal sound of the era and improved on it
with the addition of tribal Brazilian rhythms and world music ideals.
Originally released via Roadrunner Records, their
first six albums - plus, their long out of print debut EP, Bestial Devastation (1985) - have recently been re-released on
vinyl in a stunning six-LP box set from Rhino Records. Each album is pressed on colored vinyl with
colors chosen to match the album artwork for each release and is housed in a sturdy
sleeve emblazoned with their iconic “S” logo.
The collection is also available on CD as well.
